Toward a Planned Economy

I’m in Mexico for a couple months, which gives one a perspective outside the mendacious reach of the MSM.

It’s not about money. It’s not about greed. It’s about stark terror. The billionaire class can count. They know their days are numbered. The degree of economic inequality that they have perpetrated is utterly unsustainable. It’s only a matter of time before the ginormous international working class gets it together and overthrows capitalism, a system that has egregiously outlasted its usefulness.

Will they go so far as to halve the world’s population by nuclear war in order to stay in power? Certainly many of them would. Perhaps not all.

The thing about frightened people is they tend to overreact. We can count on them to go too far, partly because we hope the arc of history bends toward justice.

We need a five-year plan.

It’s clear from the example of China that the economies that work are the planned economies. Planning the economy is the first step toward a workable socialism. Yes this requires a strong central government, but hopefully it can be shaped to act in the interests of the working class.

If the US left had a five year plan, it might look like this:

Year 1. Increase pressure to end the war in Palestine and support immigrants, legal or not

Year 2. Organize a movement behind AOC for president in 2028

Year 3. Focus on strengthening the labor movement, organizing new unions and developing new leadership

Year 4. Secure the election by precinct to precinct organizing

Year 5. Assume power or examine why we didn’t, understanding that it’s the movement that is important, not the results of individual elections
